Loteria Bracelet

$40.00

A collection of 11 cards included in the classic Mexican game of Lotería.

A little backstory: It's origin is in Italy in the 15th century as "Il Gioco del Lotto d’Italia" and was brought to New Spain (modern Mexico) in 1769 by Spanish colonizers, initially serving as a pastime for the colonial elite. Over time, it spread throughout Mexico and became a popular tradition at public fairs and gatherings, eventually embraced by all social classes.

The game's modern form was significantly shaped by French immigrant Don Clemente Jacques, who began publishing his version. He had a canning & bottling business as well as a printing press and was able to market this game. Known as "Gallo de Don Clemente," in 1887; his design, featuring iconic imagery on a sky-blue background, became widely recognized and was even distributed to Mexican soldiers, helping to popularize it nationwide.

The game's cultural significance deepened through its use of symbols reflecting Mexican history and identity, such as "El Soldado" and "La Muerte,". A classic that still holds significance and available for purchase and play.
